Cytochrome Complexes: Evolution, Structures, Energy Transduction, and Signaling

Cytochrome Complexes: Evolution, Structures, Energy Transduction, and Signaling
Springer | Plant Sciences | July 16, 2016 | ISBN-10: 940177479X | 739 pages | pdf | 21.87 mb

Editors: Cramer, William A., Kallas, Toivo (Eds.)

Encyclopedic discussion of multi-faceted functions in energy transduction, evolution, and signaling
Perspective on a major group of integral membrane proteins
Modern review of the cytochrome family extending over prokaryotes and eukaryotes

An Introduction that describes the origin of cytochrome notation also connects to the history of the field, focusing on research in England in the pre-World War II era. The start of the modern era of studies on structure-function of cytochromes and energy-transducing membrane proteins was marked by the 1988 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, given to J. Deisenhofer, H. Michel, and R. Huber for determination of the crystal structure of the bacterial photosynthetic reaction center. An ab initio logic of presentation in the book discusses the evolution of cytochromes and hemes, followed by theoretical perspectives on electron transfer in proteins and specifically in cytochromes. There is an extensive description of the molecular structures of cytochromes and cytochrome complexes from eukaryotic and prokaryotic sources, bacterial, plant and animal. The presentation of atomic structure information has a major role in these discussions, and makes an important contribution to the broad field of membrane protein structure-function.

Concrete Structures for Wind Turbines (Repost)

Concrete Structures for Wind Turbines By Jürgen Grünberg, Joachim Göhlmann, Konrad Bergmeister
2013 | 242 Pages | ISBN: 3433030413 | PDF | 4 MB

The wind energy industry in Germany has an excellent global standing when it comes to the development and construction of wind turbines. Germany currently represents the world′s largest market for wind energy. The ongoing development of ever more powerful wind turbines plus additional requirements for the design and construction of their offshore foundation structures exceeds the actual experiences gained so far in the various disciplines concerned.
This book gives a comprehensive overview for planning and structural design analysis of reinforced concrete and pre–stressed concrete wind turbine towers for both, onshore and offshore wind turbines. Wind turbines represent structures subjected to highly dynamic loading patterns. Therefore, for the design of loadbearing structures, fatigue effects – and not just maximum loads – are extremely important, in particular in the connections and joints of concrete and hybrid structures. There multi–axial stress conditions occure which so far are not covered by the design codes. The specific actions, the nonlinear behaviour and modeling for the structural analysis are explained. Design and verification with a focus on fatigue are adressed. The chapter Manufacturing includes hybrid structures, segmental construction of pre–stressed concrete towers and offshore wind turbine foundations.

General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry: Structures of Life, 5th edition

Karen C. Timberlake, “General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry: Structures of Life, 5th edition”
English | ISBN: 0321967461, 1292096195 | 2015 | 960 pages | PDF | 30 MB

General, Organic, and Biological chemistry (2-semester).

Give allied health students the chemistry they need…how and when they need it!

Designed to prepare students for health-related careers, General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry: Structures of Life breaks chemical concepts and problem solving into clear, manageable pieces, ensuring students follow along and stay motivated throughout their first, and often only, chemistry course. Karen Timberlake’s friendly writing style, student focus, vetted and refined clinical chemistry problems, and engaging health-related applications help today’s students make connections between chemistry and their intended careers as they develop the problem-solving skills they’ll need beyond the classroom.

The Fifth Edition fully integrates the text with MasteringChemistry to provide an interactive and engaging experience. New Construct a Concept Map activities help students connect ideas through video solutions and live demonstrations, while the text and media establish a clinical focus that ties chemistry directly to allied health. Instructors can also assign MasteringChemistry’s new Dynamic Study Modules, which enable students to remediate core math and chemistry skills outside of class, freeing professors to focus on GOB Chemistry concepts and problem solving during class.

Also available with MasteringChemistry

MasteringChemistry from Pearson is the leading online homework, tutorial, and assessment system, designed to improve results by engaging students before, during, and after class with powerful content. Instructors ensure students arrive ready to learn by assigning educationally effective content before class, and encourage critical thinking and retention with in-class resources such as Learning Catalytics. Students can further master concepts after class through traditional and adaptive homework assignments that provide hints and answer-specific feedback. The Mastering gradebook records scores for all automatically graded assignments in one place, while diagnostic tools give instructors access to rich data to assess student understanding and misconceptions.

Mastering brings learning full circle by continuously adapting to each student and making learning more personal than ever–before, during, and after class.

Isotope Low-Dimensional Structures: Elementary Excitations and Applications (repost)

Isotope Low-Dimensional Structures: Elementary Excitations and Applications by Vladimir G. Plekhanov
English | ISBN: 3642286127 | 2012 | PDF | 103 pages | 3.5 MB

This Briefs volume describes the properties and structure of elementary excitations in isotope low-dimensional structures. Without assuming prior knowledge of quantum physics, the present book provides the basic knowledge needed to understand the recent developments in the sub-disciplines of nanoscience isotopetronics, novel device concepts and materials for nanotechnology. It is the first and comprehensive interdisciplinary account of the newly developed scientific discipline isotopetronics.
