Whether it’s drums, vocals, keyboards, guitar amp’s, or a direct signal from a guitar, he discusses the choices he makes to lay the foundations of the song. Matthew will be working with Kendrick Dial & The Lyrical Groove and will demonstrate the concept of “Mixing By Feel”, an approach that favors musical intention above sound quality.
Matthew Weiss will demonstrate how to find the “center” of a mix, how to dissect the artist’s intentions, and how to gauge the listener’s expectations based on the culture surrounding this genre of music. He will also teach you signal processing, EQ and compression tips and techniques, spatial processing, and a variety of other creative mixing techniques such as using dynamic range to shape and cater to the emotion of the song, and ways audio engineers can add layers of intrigue to a record.
